What is the Grandmaster method?
Three pillars: Learn (tiered curriculum plus weekly Stockfish 16 review), Play (sparring with your coach, puzzle race, monthly internal tournaments), and Grow (Discord community, chess variant fun, milestone recognition). Every session has a target and is measurable.
What tracks are available?
Two chess tracks: Chess Course (T1 Beginner to T3 Local Competitive) for kids age 6, adult beginners, and casual improvers. Competitive Chess (T3 to T5 Master) for players chasing online rating or preparing for regional and national tournaments.
Can I learn online or on-site?
Both. Online sessions run on online chess platform with screen-share plus Discord voice, reaching all of Indonesia. On-site sessions available in ten tier-1 cities: Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Makassar, Malang, Denpasar, and Palembang. Fixed Grandmaster Centers are on the roadmap.
How much does Grandmaster cost?
Chess Course base rate Rp 83,800 per 60-minute session. Competitive Chess base rate Rp 96,370 per 60-minute session. Package discount from 2% (8 sessions) to 12% (28 sessions). Per session ranges from 83.800 to 97.300 rupiah depending on city and mode. Larger packages cost less per session. Free 60-minute demo session before any commitment.
Who are the instructors?
Every Grandmaster instructor passes curation based on chess teaching track record and communication with players at every level. Instructors are matched to your level: welcoming approach for kids and beginners, structured for improvers, and competitive-focused for the rating climb path. Full instructor profile visible before you commit to a package.
How long does it take to climb from Elo online 1400 to 1800?
Typically 3 to 6 months with consistent coaching (1 to 2 sessions per week) plus 3 to 4 hours of independent practice per week. Depends on your starting point, commitment, and consistency. We do not promise fixed numbers because every player is different, but the path is structured and progress is tracked monthly.
How is Grandmaster different from online chess platform?
Grandmaster is a chess school with structured coaching led by a curated chess instructor who reviews your games with Stockfish 16, designs a personal training plan, and validates readiness for the next Elo range. Online chess platforms remain the self-serve platforms where you play and drill; Grandmaster adds the human instructor layer on top. Online reaches all of Indonesia, plus on-site coaching in 10 tier-1 cities.
Can I bring my chess club or school team for group coaching?
Yes. Team Coaching is available for chess clubs of 5 to 7 players (school, campus, or community). Focused on structured curriculum, sparring within the group, and tournament preparation from regional to national level. Contact via WhatsApp for team pricing and schedule.
Are there self-study materials available?
Yes. Grandmaster maintains four authority libraries free to browse: 20 openings with ideas plus plans (Italian to Sicilian), 12 canonical endgames (Lucena, Philidor, opposition, fortress), 20 chess terms glossary (basics to advanced), plus Indonesian chess ecosystem topics (PERCASI, tournaments, GM profiles). Study on your own, then bring questions to your coach.
Where do I start if I am completely new to chess?
Start with the T1 Beginner tier page (Elo <800), then read the Chess Terms glossary to know the basic vocabulary. When ready to commit, book a free 60-minute demo session with a coach matched to your level. Every path begins there.
Is there a minimum session commitment?
The smallest package is 4 sessions. Regular packages are 8, 12, 20, 24, and 28 sessions with progressive discount (2% to 12%). No monthly subscription trap. If you want to pause, you can with two weeks notice. Session credit stays with you and does not expire for six months.
What if the assigned coach does not click with me?
You can switch coaches at no cost after the first session. During the alignment call, we match by level, learning style, and schedule preference, so first-session mismatch is rare. If it still happens, tell us via WhatsApp and we reassign within 2 to 3 days.
Is there a refund policy if I cancel the package?
Yes. Pro-rated refund for sessions that have not been delivered, minus 5% processing fee. Sessions already delivered are non-refundable. Refund processed within 7 business days via bank transfer or e-wallet. Full policy shared before contract signing so nothing is hidden.
What if my internet connection is unreliable?
For unstable connections, we recommend on-site sessions in one of the 10 tier-1 cities (coach traveling to your home, cafe, or preferred venue). Alternatively, sessions can be rescheduled without penalty if internet drops mid-session. Voice-only via Discord is also an option; screen-share is preferred but not required.
When am I ready to move up to the next tier?
You move up after your rating stays consistent in the target range for 1 to 3 months, verified through weekly Stockfish 16 game review with your coach. Each tier has specific technical milestones too (e.g., T2 requires solid tactical pattern recognition, T4 requires deep opening prep). Your coach signals when you are ready, not the rating alone.
