How Coach Compensation Is Determined.
Rate is aligned per coach in the initial call, based on the factors below. No fixed rate card because contexts differ; the framework is public so the conversation stays honest.
FIDE Title
FIDE Trainer, National Instructor, FM, IM, or GM. Higher title reflects deeper teaching experience for competitive players (T3+). Kids-friendly and beginner instructors are weighted by teaching track record alongside title.
Program Tier (T1-T5)
Rate scales with the student tier you teach. T5 Master path coaching commands higher rate; T1 Beginner is entry point for coaches building portfolio.
Delivery Mode
Online 1-on-1 has base rate. Coach traveling to student home or cafe adds operations coverage (transport, time). Venue partner sessions have flat operational structure.
Group Size
Individual sessions (1 student) at base rate. Group sessions (2-5 students) have per-session multiplier. Coach earning scales with group size while student per-head cost decreases, a fair win-win.
Common Questions from Applying Coaches.
What is the minimum weekly commitment?
Minimum 4 hours per week to justify onboarding cost. Sweet spot is 8-15 hours per week; that fits with the flexible schedule most FIDE-titled coaches want. You set your own weekly capacity and can pause with 2 weeks notice.
When do coaches get paid?
Payment cycle is monthly, on the 5th of the following month. Grandmaster handles student billing (Edupoint pricing engine, monthly recurring), so coach only tracks sessions delivered. Payment via bank transfer, e-wallet (OVO/GoPay/DANA), or Wise for international.
Can I also coach on other online chess platforms?
Yes. Coaches are not exclusive to Grandmaster. Many also teach through online chess platform marketplaces, private clients, or local clubs. During Grandmaster sessions you follow our curriculum and methodology; outside sessions are your own domain.
What are the requirements to become a FIDE-titled coach at Grandmaster?
FIDE title (Trainer, National Instructor, FM, IM, or GM) plus 2+ years genuine coaching track record is the baseline. If you are still studying (competitive university player pursuing FM/IM), we consider you as long as your rating is stable 2000+ and you have coached at least 5 students at your local club or online. Do I need special training to coach kids 6-12?
Not officially required, but strongly recommended. We are building a kids-coaching micro-training (2 hours, based on ChessKid methodology plus Indonesian context) that new kids-focused coaches will go through. Existing kids coaches share their playbook via Discord.
Can I coach in English for regional students?
Yes. Grandmaster serves regional Southeast Asia students; some sessions are conducted in English. Language multiplier (1.2x) applies to the pricing engine, meaning English sessions are billed higher and coach compensation reflects that.
How much do chess coaches earn at Grandmaster?
Rate is finalized in the alignment call because it depends on FIDE title, program tier (T1-T5), delivery mode, and group size. Public benchmark: rates are competitive with online chess coaching marketplaces for FIDE-titled coaches in the Southeast Asia market, structured to be sustainable long-term for both coach and school.
